When it comes to high-quality BBQ, one of the signs you’ve made it to a great place is by trying their brisket. It should be tender to the touch and still juicy on the inside, something that isn’t always easy to achieve with this occasionally finicky cut of meat. In the BBQ world, there are some great local places that are making excellent brisket that you won’t want to miss. Here are five great Metro Detroit BBQ joints serving up mouth-watering brisket.

Slows Bar BQ

Corktown and Midtown

Slows Bar BQ is a popular Detroit destination for all things BBQ that started with their Corktown restaurant. You can get their brisket in several different ways. Start with the Burnt Ends or the Brisket Enchiladas as an appetizer. Their brisket sandwich is served with bacon, smoked cheddar, and their Texas-style BBQ sauce. Or you can just get sliced or chopped brisket on one of their combo plates or by the pound. Try any of these with their incredible homemade sauces.

Lazybones Smokehouse

27475 Groesbeck Highway, Roseville

Explore Metro Detroit in a vehicle built for discovery. Chevy Equinox combines sleek looks, maximum comfort and cutting edge entertainment to navigate your city in style.

Lazybones Smokehouse has been around for almost ten years serving amazing BBQ. They serve their brisket in a variety of different ways from straight up to piled high on a sandwich. The major difference you’ll notice at Lazybones Smokehouse is they offer Texas-style beef brisket as well as Kansas City-style burnt ends. Both are equally delicious and unique. Pair their applewood smoked brisket options with one of their ten homemade sauces for an extra kick of flavor.

Union Woodshop

18 South Main Street, Clarkston

Union Woodshop is a popular spot for all things BBQ in the small downtown of Clarkston. They start all their meat with a rub and then place it on the green hickory smoker behind the restaurant that’s always running at low heat. You can get their brisket served traditionally with white bread, house pickles, and a side of slaw. Or take it to the next level and get it on a salad or pizza, including the Woodshop Pizza that’s topped with smoked chicken, pulled pork, chopped brisket, onion, cheese blend, and Memphis BBQ sauce.

Woodpile BBQ Shack

Clawson and Madison Heights

Woodpile BBQ Shack believes that all BBQ meat needs is wood smoke and time. Because of this philosophy, when they sell out of something for the day, it’s gone until the next one, so they encourage their customers to stop by early for their favorites. The brisket at Woodpile is phenomenal and each location has a slightly different menu. If you’re a brisket purist, head to Clawson for traditional sandwiches and combo platters. But if you’re more adventurous, head to Madison Heights for brisket tacos, chili, coneys, and Corktown Taters: waffle fries or tots with chopped brisket, brisket chili, cheddar cheese, and onions.

Lockhart’s BBQ

202 East 3rd Street, Royal Oak

Lockhart’s BBQ was created after owners Drew and Rick did extensive research across the major BBQ destinations of the South and combined their favorite parts of each one. They came up with Detroit Style BBQ: begin with a rub, low and slow heat, and sauce as an option at the end. Brisket is a staple on their menu and shows up in several different places. Their burnt ends have been double rubbed and double smoked for over 14 hours of smoke time. Lockhart’s Texas Chili comes loaded with all meat including brisket, ground sausage, and ground beef. You can also get their brisket on a sandwich, a BBQ bowl, a burger, in mac and cheese, or as a standalone with their delicious sides.
